Our Mission
We Light Spaces Through Light Led Design.
At Eleven Lighting we believe great lighting design comes long before the product itself. Every design begins with asking what the light should be before designing the product itself. Carefully considering the colour temperature, diffusion, brightness, type of light, and feeling from the light, only then do we start thinking about the object.
Intentional Temperatures
We create with intention. Our products have to give the right light output before they look pretty and colour temperature has one of the biggest impacts on this.
Types of Light
We obsess over the type of light for every product or project as this changes how the product fits into a space.
Design Principles
We believe a lamp should be designed around the quality and type of light it gives off, not just look prety when it's off.
Warm or Cold Light
2400k vs 3000k+
We choose either 2400k or 2700k colour tempreature in our products because of the emotion is curates within a space. It's the difference between a lamp which looks pretty and just lights a space and a lamp which creates a warm cosy feeling, inviting you to relax and slow down.
2400k - Warming, similar to a candle or a natural fire, cosy sunrise or sunset feeling.
2700k - good middle ground, ideal for homes, comfortable task lighting, good for the body.
3000k - neutral warm tones,
4000k - Workspaces and office's
5000k+ - Daylight
Types of Light
Ambient vs Accent vs Glow vs Task vs Natural Light
Choosing the type of light completely changes how a space feels. forcing your focus around a space or letting your body rest, designing with the right type of light is so important to currate the right feeling within a space.
Ambient light- the foundation of a well lit space, providing even general illumination across a space, making a room feel comfortable, balanced and safe to be in.
Accent light- designed to draw your eye to a specific part of a room, by highting architectural features, artwork, plants, tables, or objects, creating depth, focus and visual interest.
Glow light- this creates atmosphere rather than illumination, it adds warmth, softness, and a sense of calm. Think of sitting around an open fire creating a glowing warm feeling.
Task light- providing focused practical light on surfaces you need to work in. Ideal for reading, cooking, working and any other activity which requires clarity and precision.
Natural light- every space needs to take into consideration natural light as it's ever changing through colours, intensities and changes how a space feels and looks.
Design Principles
Combining The Right Lighting Principles It What Makes A Space Feel Great To Be In Whilst Looking Stunning
There are a few design principles to follow when thinking or choosing the right light for a space.
Layering light- a well designed space combines ambient, tast, accent and glow lighting to create depth and focus within a space. This also helps curate the right atmosphere you want to feel within a space.
Light the space not the room- by lighting objects and pieces within the space these result in the space feeling lit, without having to blanketly light the space with downlights. Using multiple lighting sources throught the space creates balance and visual interest.
Eliminate glare- reducing where you can see the source of light come from creates a very comfortable atmosphere to be in. Diffused illumination also helps a room feel more comfortable to spend time in.
Think about the space- understanding spaces changes how you light it, is it used for work, rest, play, relaxing each space needs it's own feeling and atmosphere which you can curate through good lighting design.
